The Silky Terrier came out of Australia by crossing the Australian Terrier with imported Yorkshire Terriers. In 1926 the Australian Kennel Club condensed the standards for the Silky that came out of Sydney and  Victoria. The Silky Terrier is in the Toy Group but still maintains its hunting characteristics for rodents. The AKC recognized the Silky Terrier in 1959.  It is currently #102 on the AKC favorite Dog Breed List.
