Macrame has been around for centuries. What started out as decorative knots that tied up loose ends of hand woven textiles evolved into decorative art pieces and more useful items like hammocks, belts, and hats. Think of sailors on long voyages who needed to keep their hands and minds busy; they could then sell their busy work at ports. In the seventies this hobby made a resurgence and produced lots of things like plant holders and bags.
